London Christmas Delights

London has the best Christmas lights, there’s no doubt about it. Not only are the streets always colourfully lit up, but restaurants and shops go all out to spruce up their fronts for the festive season.

Trying to decide where to go can be slightly overwhelming – there’s just so much to see! I recently used The Curious Pixie’s walking tour as a base to see some of the highlights in Central London this year. It was a great opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit and snap some festive shots.

I ventured ever so slightly off the tour’s recommendation, so my route is below. They’re all within easy walking distance of each other, so it’s not a problem if you discover your own route. The tour can take around 40 minutes, but ours was much longer as we took so many photographs and ventured into some of the shops.

We started with Oxford Street and Regent Street, which have beautiful lights hanging above to enjoy as you shop. Just past H&M on Regent Street, head left down Foubert’s Place until you reach Carnaby Street, which has partnered with charity Choose Love for their light display. Further down Carnaby Street you can find Kingly Court, one of my favourite places in London. It has a fantastic range of restaurants and is under shelter – perfect for winter in the city.

Back onto Regent Street, follow the road round and cross on the right to Piccadilly. Turning right onto Piccadilly, you’ll spot department store Fortnum & Mason – you can’t miss its red façade. We also popped inside to see the incredible Christmas decorations they sell (and to shelter from the rain, of course – it’s London)!

On the other side of the road is the historic Burlington Arcade, the world’s first shopping arcade! Their luxurious Christmas decorations are picture-perfect. Walk all the way through to enjoy some window shopping, and you’ll reach New Bond Street on the other side, home to Cartier’s dazzling Christmas décor. Most of the designer shops down this road have impressive Christmas designs.

Back round onto Piccadilly and head back towards Piccadilly Circus, turning right once you get there towards Waterloo Place. Sofitel London St James has a brilliant tree on the square – we even saw Santa Claus!

From here it’s about a 15 minute walk through Leicester Square towards Covent Garden, which is the perfect place to stop for a hot chocolate or mulled wine and admire their bright decorations.

I also went to Chelsea at the weekend, which is another great spot to get in the festive spirit in London. King’s Road has its own lights, and the stores and restaurants have gone all out – even some homes are dressed up!

Have you got anywhere else in London you’d recommend for a festive walk? Share it in the comments!

Another London adventure with Emily, and another beautiful outfit (head over to Emily’s blog here to see outfit details). We finally discovered the famous Portobello Road market, as well as the delicious Hummingbird Bakery cupcakes and hot chocolates! We wandered over to Spitalfields to revisit our favourite diner, The Diner in the market, for one of the best hot dogs in London!

On Sunday I ventured to one of my favourite cities again, London. Lights of Soho, an adorable gallery round the corner from Piccadilly, is showing ‘God’s Own Junkyard’, celebrating Chris Bracey and 40 years of neon. Bracey salvaged neon lights and signs from films, fairgrounds and circuses that would have otherwise dumped them.

Two floors filled with magical, neon delight = heaven! God’s Own Junkyard is on until Sunday 18th January, so hurry before you miss it! If you want more, there is also a selection of neon treasures in Selfridges Oxford St.

Company Bloggers Style the High Street

What an amazing night I had last Thursday! Myself and my trusty fashion partner-in-crime, Emily, ventured to London for the Company Magazine Bloggers Style the High Street event, hosted in Tobacco Dock. Well worth the money, our tickets included free drinks, photo booth, great food and incredible pamper treats, as well as seats in the fashion show and a goodie bag.

The catwalk showed off this season’s collections from ASOS, River Island, Warehouse, Primark, Next, M&S, Yumi and Oasis, presented by the gorgeous Lilah Parsons. The collections were styled by some fantastic well known bloggers, a few of my favourites being Doina from The Golden Diamonds, Hannah from HannahLouiseF and Emma from EJ Style. There was also a surprise performance from Nina Nesbitt before the show!

The night was fantastic and gave me an opportunity to meet fellow bloggers, like Mariana from The Portuguese Pink Pie and Sara from Lady Lippy. I got the chance to take a few street style photographs, as well as photograph the rest of the night. Enjoy! Please click on a photo to enlarge it.

Lamp Posts and Flower Baskets

Oh, London. If you can’t tell yet, it’s one of my favourite places.

Joined by my fellow London-devotee, Emily, we ventured to Bethnal Green on a sunny Sunday morning, to visit Judy’s Vintage ‘Kilo’ Fair held in York Hall on Old York Road. I must say it was the best vintage fair I’d ever been to; grab a bag, fill it with vintage goodies, and pay according to how much your bag weighs! They say a kilo is £15 – an average of 4-5 items! Then we rested our feet with a lovely sausage roll, cake and Ribena (of course) from the small ‘Pear of Peas’ cafe.

Feeling suitably refreshed, we wandered over to the lovely Brick Lane, where the Sunday market was in full flow; food, fresh juices, antiques, vintage clothes, sunglasses, books, and more food stalls!

And then on to one of my most cherished secrets of London – St Christopher’s Place, just off Oxford Street. We enjoyed a stroll around the small shops, and then had a delicious meal at an Italian called Osteria Ambrosia. Their £9.50 lunch menu was until 6pm so we just made it for the best garlic bread I’ve had in a long time, as well as a gorgeous pizza. We crossed the road to Kula for dessert – a delightful Oreo milkshake for Emily, and a chocolate ice cream for myself (my weakness!).

Enjoy the photographs, again taken on Kodak Porta 400 35mm Film!
